Of Love and Passion: Three Generations of Great Russian Composers
Sergei Rachmaninoff's opera ALEKO, art songs, instrumental music
The Russian Speakers Society is proud to present this unique concert! In the first part of the concert, the audience will hear the concert production of S. Rachmaninoff's opera “Aleko”. This one-act opera will be performed in Austin for the first time featuring Nikita Storozhev, Mikhail Smigelski, Isabella Dolande, Evgeny Kozyrenko, Heather Lewis as soloists, Tatiana Storozheva at the piano, and students of the Nikita Storojev’s voice studio as chorus. The libretto of “Aleko” is based on an adaptation of the poem The Gypsies by Alexander Pushkin. This opera will be performed in Russian language supplemented by English printed translation.
After the intermission, the audience will be invited to the second part of the concert to enjoy various vocal and instrumental masterpieces by three generations of celebrated Russian composers: from Alyabyev and Glinka to Rachmaninov and Prokofiev. We also will be happy to introduce another guest performer - Alena Bystritskiy, harp.
The City of Austin’s Cultural Arts Division, a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts, and an award from the National Endowment all have helped make this event possible. Join us!
